MEN'S BASKETBALL: TWO TOUGH LOSSES FOR LAKERS ON THE ROAD

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It was a tough weekend when it came to the final score for the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team, despite a lot of positives.

The Lakers dropped a pair of road games, losing 86-70 Friday night to the Waterloo Warriors and 108-103 in overtime to the nationally ranked Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night.

On Friday, in the first game of the weekend, a slow start hurt Nipissing as they played from behind for much of the game.

Waterloo led by two after the first quarter, but the second was the difference in the game.

The Lakers were outscored by 19 in the second and trailed 50-29 at halftime.

And despite outscoring Watelroo 41-36 in the second half, the gap was too large to close and Nipissing fell by 16 in the end.

Marvin Ngonadi led the way with 17, Jordan Roberts and Marcus Lewis each had 16.

Saturday's defeat was a tough one to swallow for the team, as they had the win in sight, but were unable to pull off the upset.

After a fairly even first half, with the Lakers down by five after the first and trailing just 38-35 at halftime, the second half proved to be an exciting 20-plus minutes of basketball.

Nipissing took the lead after three quarters, building up a 64-60 advantage.

In the final minutes of the game, leading by four, the Lakers couldn't hold back the ninth ranked team in Canada, as Laurier poured it on late and tied the game with just seconds to go, forcing overtime.

In the extra period, the Hawks outscored Nipissing by five to steal the victory.

Justin Hill was hot, scoring 30 points, Marcus Lewis had 29, Jordan Roberts had 20 and Marvin Ngonadi added 13.

Nipissing hosts Western and Windsor next weekend to wrap up the first semester.
