Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 A small slip up here and there seems to be the deciding factor when it comes to wins and losses for the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team.

For the most part, they hung in there with both the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks, but dropped a 78-63 decision to Waterloo Friday and a 66-59 result to Laurier on Saturday.

A great start had Nipissing ahead by eight after the first quarter against Waterloo, starting off strong and up 21-13.

But very quickly, things turned as the Warriors came up with a big second, outscoring the Lakers 23-9 and led Nipissing 36-30 at halftime.

They extended their lead over the Lakers by nine after the third quarter and as the teams both posted 17 points in the final frame, it wasn't enough for the Lakers to make a comeback, falling by 15  in the end.

Jamie Soffer had a big game for the Lakers, posting 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Michaela Branker had 17 points in Friday's contest.

In the final game of the weekend, both teams had strong sequences and neither ran away with the game.

Laurier held a 26-18 lead after the first quarter and led the Lakers 41-35 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lakers fought back, but a slow third hurt, scoring just five points.

Down 51-40, the Lakers cut the gap in the final 10 minutes, but came up short, losing by seven.

Soffer once again led the way with 15 points, Branker had 14, Natalie Martinez added 12 and Maria Walsh chipped in with 10.

Nipissing hosts Western and Windsor next weekend to close out the first semester of play.
