The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team is headed to the Baggataway Cup.
The Lakers picked up a 13-10 win over the Queens Gaels Saturday afternoon in Kingston to advance to the championship tournament, held this weekend by the University of Toronto.
In an extremely tight Round 1 playoff game, the Lakers took a one-goal lead into halftime and put the game away in the fourth quarter to advance to the next round.
The teams finished the first quarter tied 4-4 and at halftime, Nipissing held a 7-6 lead.
Another tight quarter in the third saw the teams each post three goals as Nipissing held on to their one goal lead approaching the final frame.
The Lakers locked the game down in the fourth, allowing just one goal and putting up three of their own to extend their lead to three and earn the victory.
Tanner Poole led the Lakers attack with four goals and six point,
Tyler Goodchild continue his hot streak with three goals and four points,
Sam Rooney and
Scott Dominey each had two goals and an assist and
Will Craig added a pair of goals in the win.
Andrew Wood was outstanding in net, earning the win.
The Lakers will now focus on Round 2 – the Baggataway Cup quarter-finals against the Brock Badgers.
The game is set for Friday afternoon at 4pm at Varsity Stadium in Toronto.
