The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team played their final home game of the season Saturday night against the high flying Ottawa Gee Gees.
The Lakers fought hard and held their own for much of the first half, but Ottawa pulled away in the end, on their way to a 79-47 victory over Nipissing.
A fast pace game saw both teams running the court, but it was Ottawa who closed out the quarter leading 22-11. Despite Nipissing's best efforts in the second quarter, Ottawa extended their lead.
At halftime the score read 39-25 for Ottawa, but the game was within reach for the Lakers if they continue their strong play.
The third quarter didn't go Nipissing's way, however, as Ottawa outscored them 23-13 and built up a 62-38 lead after 30 minutes.
The Lakers weren't going down without a fight, though and picked up their game in the final quarter.
A late push wasn't enough, as Ottawa outscored Nipissing 17-9 in the final quarter.
When it was all said and done, the final was 79-47 in favour of the Gee Gees.
Jamie Soffer had a big game, scoring 20 points and
Devanee Dewey added seven in Saturday's game against Ottawa.
Nipissing hits the road next week to continue the OUA season in Toronto against Ryerson and Toronto.
