MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS FALL TO MCMASTER IN QUARTER-FINALS

An impressive season came to an end this weekend, as the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team was eliminated from the post-season in Hamilton against the McMaster Marauders.

The Lakers had won four straight matches and entered as the fourth seed, but fell in three sets to McMaster (25-13, 25-8, 25-18).

Nipissing hung tough early on in the first set, trailing just 9-5.

They trailed 16-8 at the technical timeout, but McMaster extended their lead as the set progressed, taking the set 25-13.

The Lakers were slow out of the gates in the second set, down 6-3 early on and 16-4 at the technical timeout.

From there, the Marauders cruised to the 25-8 win and took control of the match.

In the third set, Nipissing refused to quit and fought back keeping pace with the Marauders.

The score was tied 7-7 early on and McMaster held a slight 16-14 edge at the technical timeout, but took over after that.

From the timeout on, the Marauders outscored Nipissing 9-4 to claim the set and the match.

Cam Branch led the Lakers with five kills, Steve Wood had four and Curtis MacPherson had three in the loss.

Nipissing qualified for the playoffs for the second straight season, had a winning record for the second straight year and continued to make noise in the OUA – all signs they'll continue to be a force for years to come.
