A fourth straight trip to the playoffs, a third straight trip to at least the second round and another solid season is the way to describe the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey season that came to an end this weekend.
The Lakers were eliminated from the post-season in Game 2 of Round 2 in Kingston, as the Gaels edged the Lakers 2-1, winning both games in the series by just a goal.
Wednesday night, the Lakers fell 3-2 in overtime at Memorial Gardens.
Queens scored twice in the first period, a power play marker early and an even-strength goal late to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes.
No scoring in the second period meant Nipissing would need to find the back of the net twice in the final frame to extend the series.
Katelyn Heppner scored with less than seven minutes to go, but that's as close as the Lakers would get, despite firing 12 shots at the Gaels net.
Maria Dominico and
Jade Gauthier picked up assists on the goal.
In the end, Nipissing has 33 shots through 60 minutes, but were unable to push the series to Game 3.
Lakers goalie
Jackie Rochefort finished with 25 saves in her final OUA game.
Nipissing finished fourth during the regular season, eliminated the fifth place Ryerson Rams in three games in Round 1, advancing to play the OUA's top team in Round 2.
Unfortunately, two tough one-goal losses led to the post-season exit.
