Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team hasn't had much luck against the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues this season.
The Lakers dropped home games against both teams earlier this season and came out on the wrong end of two decisions on the weekend as well.
The Lakers lost to Ryerson 3-1 Saturday before falling 2-1 in overtime to Toronto Sunday afternoon.
In their loss Saturday, Nipissing trailed 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after two periods before finding the back of the net.
Kaley Tienhaara scored on the power play – assisted by
Jetta Derenoski and
Katelyn Heppner – to cut the team's deficit in half, but a late empty-net goal by the Rams would seal the game.
Danika Ranger finished with 30 saves, but was tagged with the loss.
Sunday, the Lakers earned a point thanks to a third period goal, but came up short.
After trailing 1-0 through two periods,
Brianna Gaffney continued her strong season with a goal to tie things up early in the third.
Derenoski and
Zosia Davis picked up assists on the tying goal.
Unfortunately, Toronto would grab the win with an overtime tally on the power play.
Ranger made 24 saves Sunday, but once again suffered the loss.
The Lakers are back at home this weekend, as they host Western Friday at 5pm and Windsor Saturday at 4:30pm.
Both games are at Memorial Gardens.
