Offence hasn't been much of an issue since the calendar flipped to 2019 for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team.
Nipissing has managed to find the back of the net fairly regularly in January, unfortunately, Friday night it wasn't enough.
The Lakers scored goals in all three periods, but fell 6-4 to the UQTR Patriotes in an entertaining 60 minutes of hockey.
The Lakers opened up the scoring as veteran
Brock Morrison tucked the puck home to put Nipissing up 1-0.
Danny Desrochers and
Lucas Clark picked up assists on the game's opening goal.
Less than two minutes later UQTR replied to tie the game.
Drake Lindsay gave the Lakers the lead back when he one-timed a centering pass to the back of the net.
Gael Lubwele and
Colby Tower grabbed assists on the second tally of the game for Nipissing.
But once again, the Patriotes responded and tied things up on the power play, sending the teams to the first intermission tied 2-2.
The Patriotes would go on to score three straight goals in less than eight minutes in the second, going up 5-2.
Colin Campbell scored a highlight reel goal late in the period to cut the Nipissing deficit to just two goals heading into the third and final period.
Kylor Wall got the Lakers within one when he scored a power play goal at the 4:30 mark of the third period, but that's as close as the Lakers would get.
UQTR sealed the win with an empty-netter as they came away with the victory.
Brent Moran finished with 24 saves for Nipissing, while they had 26 shots on goal.
The same two teams are at it again Saturday night at 7:30pm.
