The hot start continues for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team, as they picked up their fourth win in five games Friday night.
The Lakers edged the Laurentian Voyageurs 4-3 in a shootout in Sudbury to improve to 4-0-1 on the season, picking up nine of a possible 10 points so far.
After a scoreless first period, it was Laurentian who struck first, going up 1-0 early in the middle frame.
Nipissing would reply twice to take the lead thanks to the trio of
Gael Lubwele,
Drake Lindsay and
Colby Tower.
Lubwele tied the game minutes after the midway point of the period, set up by Lindsay and Tower.
The Lakers grabbed the lead seconds before the end of the frame as Lindsay scored at the 19:37 mark, with assists going to
Devyn Mayea and Lubwele.
The Voyageurs answered back early in the third period, tying the game up on the power play just over three minutes into the third stanza.
Nipissing regained the thanks to a power play goal of their own as Lubwele found the back of the net for the second time in the game.
Tower and Lindsay drew assists on the goal.
Laurentian would once again fight back, tying the game with just under eight minutes left in regulation time, sending the game to overtime.
After the extra frame settled nothing, the game went to a shootout and eight shooters later, it was
Jacob Hickey's deciding goal that gave Nipissing the extra point and victory.
Talor Joseph finished with 36 saves in the game, along with seven more in the shootout.
Nipissing remains on the road and takes on the Queens Gaels in Kingston next weekend.
