In their final weekend of the regular season, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team was in fine form to kick things off Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers controlled the entire game and cruised to a 3-0 win over the visiting RMC Paladins, picking up their eighth victory of the season.
Nipissing scored twice in the first half, with
Ashley Mlinaric continuing her strong play, burying the game's opening goal.
She fired home her fourth goal in the past two games, giving the Lakers the lead.
Cameron Brodie, who has been a steady player for the team all year, made it 2-0 late in the first half.
After a few chances, Brodie hammered a shot off the post and in, set up by
Madison Logan.
The goal was Brodie's first of the season.
In the second half, already up a pair, the Lakers added a third goal to seal the win.
Mlinaric scored again – her second of the game – to put things away.
The goal came at the
Mykaela Volpe got the start in net, but didn't face a shot in the first half.
She was replaced by
Joy Simpson, who finished the game and made two saves to preserve the win and shutout.
Nipissing wraps up the regular season Sunday when they host the undefeated Queens Gaels.
Game time is set for Noon at Nipissing Field.
