The Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team accomplished what they set out to do at the start of the day – walk away with a victory.
The Lakers swept the visiting RMC Paladins 3-0, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-14, to start the weekend off with a win and kick the season off in style.
The Lakers were strong from start to finish, opening the match up with a convincing win.
Nipissing led big, early on, up 16-7 at the first technical timeout.
They pushed their lead to 22-17 late in the set and cruised to the 25-21 win, despite a late push by the Paladins, who fought until the final point.
In the middle set, Nipissing fought back from an early deficit to claim the 25-19 win.
The victory came after trailing 5-4 early and the teams exchanging leads prior to the technical timeout.
RMC held a 18-16 advantage in the second set, but the Lakers put on pressure late and picked up the win.
In the third and final set, Nipissing put the match away, leading 7-4 early on and sealed the match victory with a dominant set.
The Lakers will look to make it two in a row when they close out the weekend Sunday.
Nipissing will entertain the Queens Gaels at 2pm at the Surtees Athletic Centre.
