The Nipissing Lakers women's volleyball started the 2019-20 OUA season exactly the way they planned.
The Lakers welcomed the RMC Paladins to town to kick off the season and walked away with a 3-0 victory, winning 25-18, 25-18, 25-19.
The always-tough Paladins presented a challenge to the Lakers to open the season, but Nipissing answered the call and took care of business.
To open the set, Nipissing built a 16-9 lead and cruised to the opening set victory to set the tone for the match.
The first set finished 25-18 in favour of the Lakers.
In the middle set, it was another strong start for Nipissing, who led throughout and grabbed a 19-13 lead late in the set before closing things off, winning 25-18 once again.
Nipissing ensured the sweep and victory in the third set, leading 16-11 at the technical timeout as they picked up the sweep, winning 25-19.
Leading the way for the Lakers offensively were;
Shayla Kessler with 12 points,
Madison Murphy had 6 kills and 9.5 points and
Shannon Lebreux had 8 points in today's victory.
The victory has Nipissing off to a strong start this season, as they played their first three matches at home.
Next up, the Lakers entertain the Queens Gaels Sunday afternoon at noon at the Surtees Athletic Centre.
