What a win.
The Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball made it a pair of victories this weekend to begin the OUA season and they did it in style.
The Lakers swept both RMC and the Queens Gaels, their opponent Sunday to open the year up with two statement wins.
Sunday's win came thanks to wins of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20.
In the opening set, both teams came out quickly and found themselves tied 7-7 before the Lakers pulled ahead 16-15 at the break.
Nipissing led 23-19 late and held on for the 25-22 victory to take set one.
In the middle set, the Lakers trailed 16-15 at the technical timeout, but bounced back to go ahead 21-19 before wrapping up the set 25-22 and moving to within one win of taking the match.
In what turned out to be the final set, Nipissing dominated early and led 16-8.
They continued to control the set and built up a 22-17 lead before closing things out with a 25-21 win.
The great balance and some big plays led Nipissing to their second straight sweep.
Curtis MacPherson led the Lakers attack with 11 points, 
Jeremie Murray had 9.5 and 
Jackson Young added nine in today's victory.
Nipissing will be back in action next weekend when they host the Ryerson Rams Friday, before heading to Trent on Sunday.
