Two physical matches on the weekend showed what the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball are all about and the results were pretty good.
Coming off a tough loss Saturday, the Lakers bounced to take care of business against the Brock Badgers, defeating the visitors 3-1 Sunday afternoon at the Surtees Athletic Centre.
It was a slow start for the Lakers, as they trailed 5-0 early on in the opening set.
While they closed the gap, they still found themselves playing from behind, down 16-12 at the technical timeout.
Brock led the first set from start to finish and pushed their cushion to 20-15 before closing things out, holding on to win 25-23.
From there, Nipissing took over despite some big swings from both teams.
Midway through the second set, the Lakers led 18-13 and took care of business, winning 25-16 to even the match.
The third set saw both teams looking to grab the advantage, but it was Nipissing who led at the break.
Nipissing held on to leads of 22-20 and 24-22 as they kept Brock from putting together any streaks and sealed the victory in the third set, winning25-23.
Up 2-1, the Lakers looked to close out the match and jumped out to a 17-10 lead midway through the game.
From there, they managed to hold Brock at bay and cruised to a 25-19 win.
Thanks to the victory Sunday, the Lakers are now 4-2 at sit atop the East Division standings.
Curtis MacPherson led the Lakers offence with 13 kills, 
Jackson Young had 11 and 
Liam Ludlow added nine in the victory.
They now enter a bye week and will return to action on Nov. 22 when they travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers.
