After their most complete effort and biggest victory of the young season, the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball came up short Sunday.
The Lakers settled for a weekend split after falling to the Laurentian Voyageurs 90-56 Sunday afternoon in Sudbury.
Nipissing started the game off very well and after the opening quarter, led 18-17, but couldn't sustain their strong start.
Laurentian had a huge second quarter and the Lakers cooled down which resulted in a complete 180 in the game.
At halftime, the Lakers trailed 48-32.
Their deficit grew in the third, as they managed just 10 points, as Laurentian outscored them by 17 to push the Voyageurs lead to 75-44.
The teams traded points in the fourth quarter, but the gap was too much for the Lakers to overcome, as they feel to their rivals in the first of two meetings this season.
Danny Lukusa and
Will Tran led the way with 12 points each for the Lakers, while
Quintin Ashitei added 11 in Sunday's contest
Nipissing is back in action next weekend when they hit the road to take on Laurier Friday and Waterloo Saturday.
