A huge second half gave the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team a big victory over the visiting Western Mustangs Saturday night.

With the game tied at halftime, the Lakers scored 54 points in the second half to come away with a 92-72 win to improve their record to 2-2 early in the OUA season.

Western started strong, jumping out to a 16-12 advantage after the first quarter.

Nipissing answered in the second, scoring 26 points to climb back into the game and even things up at the break.

Through 20 minutes, the game was even 38-38.

Nipissing separated themselves in the third quarter, posting a massive 30 points, jumping out to a 14-point advantage on the Mustangs.

Hot shooting and strong defensive play allowed Nipissing to grab control of the contest.

They iced the game in the fourth, adding 24 points, outscoring Western by six and extending their lead to 20 points as they cruised to the win.

Will Tran had a big game, posting 26 points, Shandon Ashitei had 17, Quintin Ashitei scored 12 and Justin Shaver added 10 in the victory.

Nipissing is back in action on the road Sunday when they head to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs at 3pm.
