WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS FALL SHORT TO STRONG MARAUDERS SQUAD

Don't let the 3-0 score fool you – Saturday's volleyball game between the Nipissing Lakers and McMaster Marauders was very close.

The Lakers came up short, losing in three – 25-20, 25-19 and 25-21 – to the Marauders. Nipissing now sits with a 2-3 record early on in the OUA season.

The Lakers got off to a strong start and held an 11-9 lead early on in the first set.

Nipissing's lead remained intact at the technical timeout, as they had the pushed the advantage to 16-13 at the break.

In the second half of the set, the Marauders fought back to grab the lead as they came away with a 25-20 comeback victory.

In Set 2, the Lakers trailed at technical timeout 16-14, as both teams looked for the advantage – McMaster to try to grab control of the match and the Lakers attempting to even things up.

It was the Marauders who came away with another close victory, edging Nipissing 25-19 to move ahead 2-0 in the match.

The Lakers did a really strong job of fighting back and hanging around in the third set, showing no quit, however, the Marauders were too much for the Lakers.

McMaster had a 16-14 lead at halftime, led 24-20 and held on for the 25-21 victory.

The three close wins gave McMaster the match win.

Averi Bodnar led the way with 9.5 points, Megan Winter added 8 points and Shayla Kessler had 8 kills in the contest.

Nipissing is back in action Sunday at noon when they host the Brock Badgers to wrap up the weekend.
