WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS DROP MATCH IN FOUR SETS

The Nipissing Lakers women's volleyball continues to find a way to hang around, but were unable to punch through Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers came up short, losing 3-1 to the visiting Windsor Lancers, but showed some fight winning set three after dropping the first two.

In the opening set, the Lakers trailed 16-13 at the technical timeout, but the Lancers outscored Nipissing 9-4 down the stretch to take the first set 25-17.

The Lancers jumped all over the Lakers in the second set, leading 16-9 at the break.

Nipissing pushed back, but it was Windsor who came away with a 25-16 win to move up 2-0 in the match and take a commanding lead into the third set.

Nipissing replied nicely, building up a 16-7 lead at the technical timeout.

From there, they cruised to a five point win, extending the match thanks to a 25-20 victory.

The Lakers ran out of gas in the fourth set, falling 25-9 and coming up short in the match.

Shayla Kessler led the Lakers attack with 12 kills and 13 points, Madison Murphy had seven kills and 10.5 points and Cassie Dobson added six kills and 10 points.

Nipissing faces Western Sunday at noon at the RJS Athletic Centre.
