Box Score 1 Even though the season didn't go as planned for the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team, they did finish the weekend – and year – in style, with two solid efforts and a convincing win.
The Lakers split a pair of matches to close out the year, falling to the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-0 Saturday before defeating the Trent Excalibur 3-0 Sunday in Peterborough.
In the first game of the weekend, Toronto edged Nipissing 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21 to claim the win.
Steve Wood led the way with 12 kills and 15 points,
Jeremie Murray had nine kills and 12 points and
Curtis MacPherson added six points as well.
The next day in the season finale, the Lakers defeated Trent 25-17, 25-17 and 25-18 to wrap up the season.
Wood led the attack with 10 kills and 12 points, Murray had 7.5 points and
Liam Ludlow added five points as well.
The Lakers ended up in fifth place in the East Division, just one spot out of the playoffs, but a win in their final game is a perfect way to finish the year.
