Box Score 2 After opening the season with a 1-1-1 record, the Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season.
The road trip didn't go according to plan, however, as they dropped a pair of games – 3-0 to the Carleton Ravens and 3-2 to Toronto Varsity Blues.
Saturday, in Ottawa, the Lakers were blanked by the Ravens for the second time this season, this time losing 3-0 in the opening game of the weekend.
The Ravens scored once in the first half and twice in the second to pick up the victory and send Nipissing to their second loss of the year.
The Lakers finished with three shots, while
Andrew Johnstone made three saves on six shots.
Sunday, closing out the weekend, the Lakers were in a real battle against Toronto.
Nipissing trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes, but a goal just before the half by
Jamal Brown cut into the team's deficit.
Jack Collins tied the game at the 65-minute mark, but just two minutes later Toronto re-took the lead, one they would hold on to for the remaining 20-plus minutes.
In the end, the Lakers fell short despite a strong effort and late push.
Nipissing finished with five shots, while Toronto had seven.
Johnstone made four saves in a losing cause.
The Lakers return home for a single game this weekend, hosting Trent Saturday at 2:15pm at Nipissing Field.
