The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team's first road trip got off to a great start, but didn't end the way they planned.
After starting the season with two wins, the Lakers made it three in a row, as they defeated the Carleton Ravens 1-0 Saturday in Ottawa.
Unfortunately, the team suffered their first loss of the season the following day, losing 8-0 to the Ottawa Gee Gees, settling for the weekend split.
In the weekend's opener,
Abby Wroe scored the lone goal at the 38-minute mark and
Mykaela Volpe was perfect once again in net, finishing with three saves for the win and shutout.
It was Volpe's third straight clean sheet.
Nipissing finished with 12 shots, six of which were on target.
Sunday, it was all Gee Gees all game.
Ottawa scored four times in the first half and another four in the second to claim the victory,
In the span of three minutes in the first half, Ottawa scored three times, adding their fourth late in the period.
It was the same story in the second frame, as they scored four times before the 80-minute mark.
Volpe allowed four goals, while
Joy Simpson saw her first playing time of the season, also surrendering four goals.
They combined for seven saves throughout the 90 minutes.
The Lakers finished with three shots on goal.
Nipissing returns home and looks to get back in the win column as they host Trent this Saturday at noon before hitting the road and travelling to Sudbury to face Laurentian Sunday afternoon.
