MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS OUTLAST WARRIORS IN FIVE-SET THRILLER

It was a little extra work for the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball, but they made it count, coming away with a key win as they push to secure a playoff spot.

The Lakers needed five sets, but in the end, they defeated the visiting Waterloo Warriors 3-2 for their second straight win, as they improve to 7-5 on the season.

A strong start helped the Lakers jump out to a 12-6 lead early in the opening set.

They pushed that lead to 16-8 at the technical timeout and were in control of the first set, looking to grab the early advantage.

A 10-6 run by Waterloo made it a tight game down the stretch, but Nipissing held on for a 25-18 win.

In the second set, Waterloo answered back and led 18-13 midway through the set.

A 7-5 run to close things out evened the match, as the Warriors won Set 2, 25-18.

With the match tied 1-1, the third set was up for grabs, as both teams looked to take the lead and control of the match.

Nipissing led 10-7 early on and 16-10 at the technical timeout.

Both teams fought to establish the advantage, but Nipissing held on and came away with a 25-21 win to take the set and a 2-1 lead in the match.

Waterloo showed a lot of heard in the fourth set, down 2-1 in the match.

They trailed the Lakers 9-7 early and 22-20 late, but managed to stay alive and edge Nipissing 25-23 to extend the match.

A late 5-1 run gave them the victory to keep the match alive.

In the fifth set, the teams were tied 2-2 early on.

The Lakers doubled up on the Warriors at the technical timeout, 8-4, as they were in control through the first half of the set.

Nipissing held on to the lead and picked up a 15-7 win to take the fifth set.

The win is a big one as the Lakers look to secure a spot in the post-season.

Jackson Young had a monster game, picking up 24 kills and 29 points, while Jeremie Murray added 16 points and Curtis MacPherson added 10 in the win.

Nipissing faces RMC and Queens next weekend in Kingston.
