MEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS FIGHT HARD FOR A WEEKEND SPLIT

Box Score 1 Overall, this past weekend would be considered a success for the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team, despite a split.

Friday, the Lakers picked up a key 82-67 win over the York Lions before falling 95-79 to the nationally ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves.

During Friday's game, the Lakers used a strong second quarter to grab a 43-35 lead at halftime.

The teams played even in the third quarter before Nipissing sealed the win with a strong fourth quarter.

Four Lakers hit double digits - Danny Lukusa 22, Quintin Ashitei 21, Justin Shaver 16 and Girece Kazumba 11 - in the contest.

On Saturday, a solid effort wasn't enough, asthe Lakers dropped their contest to Lakehead.

The second quarter was the difference in the game, as Lakehead outscored Nipissing by 19 to take a 48-33 lead into the break.

A push in the third wasn't enough, as Lakhead held on for the victory.

Quintin Ashitei had a huge game, scoring 29 points, Justin Shaver added 28 and Shandon Ashitei & Danny Lukusa each had 11 in the contest.

Up next, Nipissing hosts Guelph and Algoma this weekend at the Surtees Athletic Centre.

Both games are set to start at 8pm.
