Box Score 1 Overall, this past weekend would be considered a success for the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team, despite a split.
Friday, the Lakers picked up a key 82-67 win over the York Lions before falling 95-79 to the nationally ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves.
During Friday's game, the Lakers used a strong second quarter to grab a 43-35 lead at halftime.
The teams played even in the third quarter before Nipissing sealed the win with a strong fourth quarter.
Four Lakers hit double digits -
Danny Lukusa 22,
Quintin Ashitei 21,
Justin Shaver 16 and
Girece Kazumba 11 - in the contest.
On Saturday, a solid effort wasn't enough, asthe Lakers dropped their contest to Lakehead.
The second quarter was the difference in the game, as Lakehead outscored Nipissing by 19 to take a 48-33 lead into the break.
A push in the third wasn't enough, as Lakhead held on for the victory.
Quintin Ashitei had a huge game, scoring 29 points,
Justin Shaver added 28 and
Shandon Ashitei &
Danny Lukusa each had 11 in the contest.
Up next, Nipissing hosts Guelph and Algoma this weekend at the Surtees Athletic Centre.
Both games are set to start at 8pm.
