WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS FALL TO GRYPHONS FRIDAY NIGHT

It's going to be an intense couple of weeks for the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team, as they look to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in program history.

Unfortunately, the Lakers lost Friday night to the Guelph Gryphons, who had three players hit double-digits in the contest.

Guelph started the game off very strong and built up a 25-10 lead after the first quarter thanks to a quick pace and second chance points.

Guelph extended their lead in a big way in the second quarter and entered halftime up 45-18 on Nipissing.

The Lakers had a much better second half, posting 28 points – 15 in the third and another 13 in the fourth – but the deficit was too much.

Guelph added 41 of their own to add to their lead, including 23 in the third quarter to cushion their advantage and claim the win.

Devisha Binns led the way with 9 points, while Celeste Dupuis added 8 in the contest.

Nipissing faces Algoma tomorrow night in their final home game of the regular season.
