Thanks to a split on the road this weekend, the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team is still alive in the tight playoff race.
The Lakers currently sit just one game behind the final post-season position in the OUA with a pair of games remaining on the schedule.
Nipissing picked up a 93-85 victory against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, before falling to the Queens Gaels 85-60 to wrap up the weekend.
Friday night, the Lakers used a monster first half to lead them to victory.
Nipissing scored 54 points in the opening 20 minutes and led by 17 at the break.
They were outscored 48-39 in the second, but held on to grab the victory and stay in the mix when it comes to the post-season.
Quintin Ashitei had 22 points,
Shandon Ashitei added 20,
Danny Lukusa had 15 and
Justin Hill and
Justin Shaver each had 11 in the contest.
In the second game of the weekend, the Lakers ran out of gas in the second half against the Gaels.
The teams were tied 29-29 at halftime, but the Gaels pulled away in the second, outscoring Nipissing 56-31 to grab the victory.
Quintin Ashitei had 18 points, Shaver had 15 and Shandon Quintin and Lukusa each added 10 on Saturday.
Nipissing wraps up the regular season this weekend with a pair of games in Toronto, facing the Ryerson Rams Friday and the Varsity Blues Saturday.
Both games are set for 8pm.
