WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS SETTLE FOR WEEKEND SPLIT ON THE ROAD

A weekend split may not seem like a lot, but thanks to a win Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team has now recorded the best single-season in the program's history.

The Lakers picked up a 72-64 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, before falling 105-53 to the Queens Gaels on Saturday.

In the opening game of the weekend, Nipissing led Ontario Tech 41-37 at halftime.

The Lakers outscored the Ridgebacks 31-27 in the second half as well to pick up the victory and set the new standard for the program.

Devisha Binns led the way with a monster game, scoring 27 points, Natalie Martinez added 21 and Nicole Budd ad 10 in the contest.

Saturday was a tough outing against a very strong Gaels team.

The Gaels controlled the game and led 53-35 at halftime as they cruised to the victory over Nipissing.

Megan McCarter had a strong game, posting 17 points, while Vanessa Willis added nine in the game.

Nipissing wraps up the regular season this weekend with a pair of games in Toronto, facing the Ryerson Rams Friday and the Varsity Blues Saturday.

Both games are set for 6pm.
