Box Score 2 While a playoff spot is locked up for the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team, their final place in the standings is still up in the air.
They currently sit third, but had a tough weekend in Toronto, falling 4-1 to the Toronto Varsity Blues and 3-0 to the Ryerson Rams in Toronto.
Friday, the Lakers dropped their contest to the OUA's top-ranked team.
The Blues opened up the scoring with the only goal of the first period, late in the frame on the power play.
Early in the middle frame, Toronto extended their lead and made it 2-0 with another power play marker.
The Lakers found cut into their deficit as
Jetta Derenoski buried a goal late in the period.
Maggie McKee and
Malory Dominico picked up assists on what turned out to be the only Nipissing goal of the game.
With the score 2-1 after 40 minutes, Toronto added two goals in the third period to put the game away and pick up the win.
Chantelle Sandquist finished with 31 saves in the loss.
On Saturday, the Rams shutout the Lakers 3-0 to upset Nipissing.
Ryerson scored twice in the first period and added an empty-net goal in the third to come away with the victory and three points.
Danika Ranger finished with 23 saves in the contest.
The Lakers will look to get back in the win column this weekend as they wrap up the regular season.
Friday, they host the Guelph Gryphons at 5pm and Saturday, the Lakers entertain the Brock Badgers at 4:30pm.
Both games are at Memorial Gardens.
