The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team has been very busy since the 2019 season came to a close.
And their hard work has paid off. The program is excited to announce their 2020 recruiting class, as the program is adding six new faces to the mix.
Nipissing head coach
David Bitonti and the staff are thrilled to add Kennedy Attwell, Jen Milligan, Rylee Traicoff, Emily Tierney, Jess Emmerton and Taylor Mitchener to the Lakers soccer program.
KENNEDY ATTWELL
Hometown: Barrie, ON
Program: History/Education
Position: Midfield/Forward
Club: Barrie FC
Attwell: I am very excited to join the Lakers, it has always been a dream of mine to play varsity soccer in university. I aim to have a style of play that is fast, calm, and typically the best option for my team. As an offensive player, I would say that my strengths consist of good foot skills, movement on and off the ball, speed of play, and quick decision making.
Scouting Report: Kennedy is a strong attacking player that can play in the middle or out wide as part of 3-striker formation. She is a fast, athletic, and tenacious competitor with good vision of the field.
JEN MILLIGAN
Hometown: Strathroy, ON
Program: BPHE
Position: Midfield/Forward
Club: London FA
Milligan: I am very excited to join the Lakers family as a student athlete. The welcoming atmosphere from the coaches and players has made me very excited to be apart it. As an attacking player I have pace and I use this to my advantage when attacking a back line. I am able to make fast and decisive runs through the back line. I am also a very versatile player in regards to position.
Scouting Report: Jen is an extremely fast and athletic forward who can see time as a striker or winger. She is an excellent attacking threat who likes to run at opponents and can make runs behind people.
RYLEE TRAICOFF
Hometown: Whitby, ON
Program: Psychology/Education
Position: Defender
Club: FC Oshawa/University of Bridgeport (Transfer)
Traicoff: I strongly believe Nipissing is the perfect fit for me to be able to advance my education while playing the sport I love. My style of play is to be able to play out of the back to the top, being able to utilize all 11 players on the field. I am fullback who loves to be able to get involved in the attacking and defensive plays. My strengths as a player, I believe, is my speed, endurance, and competitive work rate.
Scouting Report: Rylee is a defender who will be transferring into Nipissing University this fall after spending one year at the University of Bridgeport. She is an athletic outside back that possesses a lot of speed and is versatile enough to play both sides.
EMILY TIERNEY
Hometown: King City, ON
Program: Education
Position: Midfield
Club: King United
Tierney: One of the many reasons this team was so appealing to me was because of their style of play. I am a player who likes to hold onto the ball and await for an opening to exploit the opposition. I believe between the team's soccer IQ and every individual's passion for the game, we can definitely bring home an OUA gold medal in the upcoming 2020 season.
Scouting Report: Emily is a gifted player the Lakers staff have been tracking since 2017. She is strong on the ball, a very dynamic dribbler, reads the field extremely well, and will bring a physical presence to the midfield.
JESS EMMERTON
Hometown: Oshawa, ON
Program: Biology
Position: Forward
Club: FC Durham
Emmerton: I am super eager to start playing with an amazing group of girls and can't wait to contribute to the team. As an offensive player, my speed is one of my greatest strengths that assists in breaking down the back line using dynamic runs. I know Coach David has big plans for the Laker's 2020 season and with the new recruits joining in August, there is no doubt in my mind we can't achieve these goals.
Scouting Report: Jess is a quick striker with athleticism and the ability to add to an emerging attacking line. She has the versatility to play in multiple positions, but most of her success has come playing up front.
TAYLOR MITCHENER
Hometown: London, ON
Program: Biology
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: London FA
Mitchener: I am very excited to join the Laker family and be a part of another successful season. From the beginning, I felt such a sense of community from the players and the coaching staff. As a goalkeeper, it is important that I not only shot stop and distribute with my hands but be skilled and have confidence in my footwork. Additionally, resilience is an important attribute I possess; not dwelling on missteps, learning from them and moving on.
Scouting Report: Taylor has great command of the game and brings to the Lakers goalkeeping position a lot of top-level youth club game experience. She is a very athletic and technical goalkeeper.
