The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team put on a show for their fans Saturday afternoon, as the team hosted their home opener.
Welcoming the Toronto Varsity Blues to town, the Lakers edged the Blues 14-12 to improved to 2-1 on the season.
A low scoring first quarter saw the teams trade a pair of goals, ending the opening frame tied 2-2.
Jesse Ashkewe and
Will Craig scored for the Lakers.
Things opened up in the second quarter, as the teams combined for eight goals.
Toronto found the back of the net five times, to grab a 7-5 lead at the halftime break.
Craig tallied again,
Davis Prince scored and
Zach Tarr found the back of the net for Nipissing.
The teams continued to trade goals in the third quarter as the Lakers cut into their deficit, but still trailed Toronto 10-9.
Scott Dominey scored twice, Tarr and Prince added to their impressive days with another goal each.
It was the fourth quarter that made the difference for the Lakers, as they outscored Toronto 5-2 to grab and hold onto the lead.
Bo Peltier,
Carter Tait, Tarr, Prince and Ashkewe all buried key goals in the final frame to give Nipissing the victory.
The teams are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Toronto for a rematch of today's game.
Game time is set for 5pm in Toronto.
