MEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS FALL TO RAMS, SETTLE FOR WEEKEND SPLIT

The Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team is coming off one of the most exciting wins they've had in the past few seasons – the cancelled season aside – and are looking to make it a weekend sweep.

Nipissing topped the Ryerson Rams 98-97 in double overtime Friday night and hosted them once again Saturday afternoon.

The game didn't turn out the way the Lakers would have hoped, as they fell by a final of 93-53 to the Rams.

In the first, the Rams came out strong, jumping out to a 25-13 lead and took early control of the game.

Nipissing fought back in the second, but the Rams stayed ahead comfortably and took a 49-27 lead into the halftime break, going from up by 12 to up by 22.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Rams refused to let up and were making sure the Lakers didn't mount a furious comeback.

After 30 minutes, Nipissing trailed 71-33.

Despite 20 points from Nipissing in the final quarter, they came up short, as the Rams posted 22 points of their own to lock down the win and give both teams a weekend split.

The final from North Bay was 93-53.

Shandon Ashitei had 11, Nathan Riley added 10 and Nick Gehlen chipped in with nine points in today's loss.

Next up, Nipissing travels to Toronto to face the York Lions for a pair of games next weekend.
