Box Score Looking to bounce back and find the win column, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team was back in action Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a tough loss Friday night, the Lakers hosted the Ryerson Rams for the second time this weekend, aiming for the split.
A much better effort and a much closer game unfortunately didn't result in a win for Nipissing, although they do have positives to build on.
The Rams ended up claiming a 67-50 win over Nipissing.
A very strong half from the Lakers saw them down just one, 17-16, to the Rams, who jumped out to an early lead, but were slowed late by the Nipissing defence.
A great start to the second quarter had Nipissing climb not only back into the game, but also grab the lead.
For an extended stretch, the Lakers controlled the game and caught fire, jumping ahead 26-20.
After 20 minutes, the teams were deadlocked 31-31.
In the third quarter, the Rams came out strong, getting a quick advantage and building up a bit of a cushion on Nipissing.
With three minutes left in the frame, the Lakers trailed 46-38.
The Rams have pulled away a little bit in the third quarter and now hold a lead of 12 points, thanks to a late run.
After 30 minutes of play, they sit ahead of Nipissing 53-41.
The Rams were able to extend their lead in the fourth quarter and seal the victory, earning the weekend sweep, outscoring Nipissing 14-11 in the final frame.
In the end, Nipissing drops a 67-50 decision to the Rams to end their first weekend on home court.
Next up, Nipissing travels to Toronto to face the York Lions for a pair of games next weekend.
