GETTING TO KNOW...THE LAKERS BASKETBALL PROGRAMS

If you're not familiar with the Nipissing Lakers women's and men's basketball programs, here's your chance to learn all you need to know thanks to head coaches Katie Hamilton and Thomas Cory.
 
Did you know…
 
  1. The first year the program competed in the OUA was during the 2014-2015 season.
     
  2. The men's program first win was vs. Algoma by a score of 71-56 on Friday November 27, 2015. The women's program first win was vs. York 53-46 on Friday November 13, 2015.
     
  3. The men's program all time leading scorer is Marcus Lewis with 1,492 pts while the women's program all time leading scorer is Claire Abbott with 755.
     
  4. The men's program leader for total rebounds is Marcus Lewis with 660 total rebounds while the women's program leader is Jamie Soffer with 392.
     
  5. The men's program leader for most three-point field goals made is Ismael Kaba with 110 while the women's program leader is Claire Abbott at 97.
     
  6. The men's program most games played is Marvin Ngonadi and Jerron Rhodes at 100 each, while the women's program leader is also Jamie Soffer at 81.
     
  7. Overall, the program has combined to produce 50 plus Academic All Canadians in their 6-year history.
     
  8. Both the men's and women's programs are currently coached by Sault Ste. Marie natives, Thomas Cory for the men and Coach Katie Hamilton for the women.
     
  9. Coach Cory and Coach Hamilton combined to lead the Sault's best ever club team finish in history with a second-place division one silver medal at the u17 juvenile championships, prior to the creation of the JUEL and OSBA leagues.
     
  10. Both programs' head coaches played post secondary basketball themselves with Coach Cory playing at Durham College winning a National Championship and Coach Hamilton playing for the University of Prince Edward Island.
