Box Score A complete effort gave the Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team a victory in their home opener Friday night at home.

The Lakers scored late in the first half, early in the second and capped the victory with a third goal late in the game top shutout the Laurentian Voyageurs 3-0 in the second leg of the Riley Gallo Cup and the third game of the 705 Challenge Cup.

Achuthan Shanmugaratnam scored the team's first goal of the year, burying what turned out to be the game-winner at the 41-minute mark.

Fellow veteran Cody Vaillancourt made it 2-0 in favour of the Lakers just four minutes into the second half, all but securing the win for Nipissing.

Newcomer Arjun Kahlon capped off the scoring, finding the back of the net at the 78-minute mark, as he fired home his first goal as a member of the Lakers.

Ryan Miners was solid in goal, keeping a clean sheet and earing the shutout victory, playing a tidy game in goal.

The teams are back on the pitch Sunday in Sudbury, as they play the second of their home-and-home series.

Game time is set for 3:30pm.
