The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team came up short on the weekend as they battled one of the league's top teams.
The Lakers dropped to 1-1 after a 19-10 loss to the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough Saturday night.
Nipissing trailed 6-2 after the first quarter and 13-4 at halftime.
They did manage six goals in the second half, including four in the fourth frame, but it wasn't enough, as Trent matched them offensively, scoring three in the third and three more in the fourth quarter to lock down the game.
Jesse Ashkewe led the Lakers attach with a hat-trick, while Zach Tarr and
Will Craig each scored a pair.
Carter Tait and
Davis Prince each had a goal and an assist, while
Bo Peltier added a single for Nipissing.
Scott Dominey earned a pair of assists in the game as well.
Next up for the Lakers is their home opener, set for Saturday afternoon at Nipissing Field.
It's part of a home-and-home weekend against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Nipissing will host the Blues Saturday at 4pm, before heading to Toronto for the rematch on Sunday.
