The Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team came up short on the weekend against two of CUFLA's stronger teams.
The Lakers dropped a tight decision to the Trent Excalibur by a final of 10-7 Friday night at home, while losing 15-3 to the McGill Redbirds Sunday afternoon.
Friday night, the Lakers trailed early, but fought back to make a game, unfortunately running out of time and falling short.
The Excalibur led 3-1 after one and 6-3 at halftime.
The teams tied 4-4 in the second half, with the Lakers outscoring Trent 3-1 in the fourth to close the gap, but fell short when the final whistle blew.
Carter Tait and
Zach Tarr each had two goals and three points,
Kaleb Fulkerson had a goal and two assists, while Conner Nevin and
Jesse Ashkewe each added a goal in the loss.
Nipissing found themselves down early and couldn't gain any ground or momentum Sunday against McGill, trailing down 4-1 after one quarter and 11-2 at the halftime break.
The Redbirds continued to cruise in the second half, outscoring Nipissing 4-1, earning the win by a final of 15-3.
Will Ferguson had a goal and an assist, while Stephen Haas and Tair also scored for the Lakers.
The Lakers have a week off before wrapping up the season against Carleton at home on Oct. 22.
