Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team need a win and some help to host a playoff game this season.
Closing out the regular season at home against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, the Lakers took care of business, winning 4-3, although things were closer at the end than the Lakers would have liked.
The win gives the Lakers a 7-3-2 record, good for at least fifth place, but they could finish as high as fourth depending on the results of the Carleton Ravens two games this weekend.
The first half was all Nipissing and more specifically, all Jen Milligan.
Milligan scored a hat-trick, accounting for all the offence on either side.
Her first goal came at the 16-minute mark, putting Nipissing up 1-0.
About 10 minutes later, she added to her total, burying her second of the game to pad the Lakers.
And she completed her hat-trick before the halftime break, putting Nipissing up by three.
In the second half, it was all Ridgebacks after Nipissing went up 4-0.
Jess Emmerton found the back of the net to give Nipissing a four goal lead and that goal ended up being the game-winner, as Ontario Tech stormed back for three straight goals late.
They also had three glorious chances to tie the game as the clock ticked down.
Despite the late pressure against them, the Lakers held on for the win and a crucial three points.
The Lakers will now wait to see where they play – North Bay or Ottawa – but the opponent is set, it's the Ravens.
The Lakers and Ravens will battle Wednesday in Round 1 of the OUA Playoffs.
