Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team has had a very tough schedule to begin the 2022-23 OUA season.
The Lakers started off against Ottawa and Carleton on the road, then faced the defending national champions twice before hitting the road and taking on the always strong Montreal-based teams, the Concordia Stingers and McGill Redbirds this past weekend.
This past weekend, the Lakers dropped a tough 1-0 decision in overtime to the Stingers Saturday night before falling 6-1 to the Redbirds Sunday afternoon.
The lone goal Saturday night came just a minute into the overtime period on the Stingers' 45th shot and the only to beat Lakers goalie Zach Roy, who was heroic in net.
Nipissing managed 24 shots of their own during the contest.
Sunday, the Lakers and Redbirds were even after one.
McGill scored first before Pascal Valcourt tied the game, with assists going to Elias Lieffers and Will Larsen.
Unfortunately it was all McGill from there.
They added two goals in the second, taking a 3-1 lead into the second intermission and put the game away in the third, scoring three times to grab the win.
Roy was extremely busy again, finishing with 40 saves.
Next up, the Lakers remain on the road and face the Queen's Gaels Friday night and the RMC Paladins Saturday afternoon in Kingston.
