MEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS DROP A TOUGH DECISION TO A STRONG RAVENS TEAM

Box Score Coming off a solid season-opening road trip, the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team hit their home court for the first time in the 2022-23 season.

Entering the weekend sitting 1-1, the Lakers battled the top-ranked Carleton Ravens Friday night and hung tough for 40 minutes, but ultimately came up short in the end.

The Ravens outlast the Lakers, taking the contest by a final of 86-69.

A quick start had the Lakers ahead early on and they took a 23-20 advantage into the first quarter break.

The Ravens stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring Nipissing 21-10, thanks to some hot shooting from beyond the arc.

Carleton took a 41-33 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the teams combined for 41 points in a high-scoring affair.

Carleton grabbed a lead of 64-51 after three quarters of play.

The Lakers remained consistent in the fourth, but weren't able to close the gap as the Ravens outscored Nipissing by four, pulling away and earning the victory to spoil the Lakers' home opener.

The final score was 86-69 in favour of Carleton.

Noah LaPierre led the Lakers attack, scoring 19 points, while Darnaz Mabanza had 12, Jack Hagerty added 11 and Muktar Mohamed chipped in with 11 points in the contest.Next up, the Lakers host the Ottawa Gee Gees Saturday night the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre.

Game time is set for 8pm.
