Box Score Looking to bounce back from a tough opening weekend, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team welcomed a strong Carleton Ravens team to the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre Friday night.
In search of their first win of the young season, the Lakers fought hard against one of the league's top team, ultimately falling short, losing 65-51.
Nipissing for off to a perfect start, grabbing an early lead and playing very composed to begin the game.
They held a small 5-4 lead midway through the quarter and were ahead 15-11 after the opening 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, the Ravens stormed back, taking the lead.
The teams traded baskets down the stretch, with the Ravens cashing in on a last second free throw to go into the halftime break up 31-29.
After three competitive quarters, the Lakers trail the Ravens by just 11, finding themselves down 47-36 through 30 minutes of play.
Nipissing kept the game close the entire way, trailing by just 10 with half the fourth quarter remaining.
The Ravens managed to pull away late in the game, picking up the 65-51 victory.
Leading the way offensively for the Lakers was Megan McCarter with 15 points, while Krystal Osburn and
Natalie Martinez each added 13 in the contest.
Next up, the Lakers host another quality program, as they welcome the Ottawa Gee Gees to North Bay for a matchup on Saturday night.
Tip-off is set for 6pm at the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre.
