Box Score In another tough matchup for the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team, they welcomed the Ottawa Gee Gees to town Saturday night.

After a hard-fought, tough loss Friday to Carleton, the Lakers were looking to even up their record.

Another competitive contest saw the Gee Gees walk away with the 76-66 victory to wrap up the weekend.

Nipissing got off to a great start, scoring early and often, building up a 15-6 lead midway through the first quarter.

They finished the opening 10 minutes strong, leading 20-11 after one.

The Gee Gees stormed back in the second half, outscoring the Lakers 25-16, including grabbing the lead late in the half.

The highlight of the second quarter – and maybe the entire half – came with three seconds left on the clock and the Lakers in possession of the ball.

A buzzer-beater by David Bokanga tied things up heading into halftime as his basket made it 36-36 after 20 spirited minutes.

In the third, the Gee Gees began to take over, heating up from the field.

They scored 25 points in the third to take an eight point lead into the final quarter.

Nipissing managed to answer with 17 points of their own, but trailed 61-53 after three.

In a very intense fourth, along with some strong defensive play, Ottawa was able to hold on to their lead – increasing it by two, in fact – as they picked up the 10-point win.

The final score was 76-66 in favour of the Gee Gees.

Muktar Mohamed had a big night, scoring 23 points and adding 11 rebounds, while David Bokanga added 18 for the #Lakers in a tight contest.

Up next, the Lakers hot the road and take on the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs next weekend.
