WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS DROP A PAIR ON SOUTHERN SWING

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team came up short during a southern road trip, dropping a pair of contests on the weekend.

The Lakers fell 74-55 to the Windsor Lancers Friday night to begin the weekend, then lost 77-51 to the Western Lancers Saturday night in London.

Friday night, the Lakers were unable to grab much momentum throughout the game despite keeping things close through three quarters.

Nipissing trailed 25-16 after the opening quarter of play and 43-30 at halftime.

They fought back in the third, closing the gap slightly, but the Lancers pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Nipissing 31-28 in the second half to pick up the victory.

Megan McCarter led the Lakers with 15 points, Sawyer Fischer added 13 and Nicole Budd had nine in the contest.

In the second game of the weekend, it was another slow start that hurt the Lakers, as they trailed early.

Down 40-22 at halftime, a fourth quarter push wasn't enough.

While they did outscore Western 24-19 in the fourth, the Mustangs sealed the win with a big third quarter, holding the Lakers to just five points.

McCarter led the way with 14 points for the Lakers, while Budd and Natalie Martinez each chipped in with 11 in the game.

Nipissing is now set to host Toronto and TMU on weekend at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.

Game times are 6pm both nights; Friday against Toronto and Saturday versus TMU.
