MEN'S BASKETBALL: LAKERS RUN OUT OF GAS LATE IN LOSS TO BLUES

Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team has played well this season, but haven't found the results they've wanted to far.

They were looking to remedy that Friday night when they hosted the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.

Unfortunately the Blues continued their strong start to the season and pulled away late from the Lakers, defeating Nipissing 95-72.

While the teams started tentatively, posting just eight points combined through the first few minutes, both offences clicked shortly after.

The Blues finished the quarter up a pair, leading 20-18.

Toronto continued the hot shooting the ended the first quarter with, extending their lead before halftime.

They outscored the Lakers 27-18 in the second quarter and jumped out to a 47-36 lead at the halftime break.

The Lakers began to claw back in the third quarter, cutting the deficit.

They ended the third down 10, 66-56, after outscoring the Blues by one.

The Varsity Blues pulled away in the fourth, controlling the play and heating up on the offensive side of the ball.

They outscored Nipissing 29-16, sealing the victory.

Noah LaPierre led the way for the Lakers with 15 points, Muktar Mohamed had a double-double, 13 points and 16 rebounds and D'Andre Johnson added 11 in the contest.

The Lakers are back in action Saturday night against the TMU Bold, as they wrap up their weekend.

Tip-off is set for 8pm.
