Box Score Coming off a great effort and a win Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team was hoping to carry that momentum into Saturday night.
The Lakers played host to the TMU Bold, who were coming off a win Friday night as well.
It was another impressive effort for the Lakers, but they weren't able to pull this one out, falling 82-72 to the Bold to end the weekend.
Nipissing was slow out of the gates and the Bold took advantage.
After the opening 10 minutes, the Lakers trail 24-14.
TMU was able extend their lead early in the second quarter, pushing their cushion to 18 points, as they went up 37-19.
The Lakers did a great job of closing the gap late in the half, cutting their deficit to 12 points, 42-30 and finished the half down nine points, 42-33.
In the third, coming out of the halftime break, TMU regained their comfortable lead thanks to a 16-9 run in the first half of the quarter.
TMU had a big quarter as they pulled away from the Lakers, outscoring them 26-13 in the frame and leading 68-46 after 30 minutes of play.
Nipissing came out flying in the fourth quarter, going on a 21-4 run through the first seven minutes to climb within five points of TMU.
The teams went back and forth down the stretch and Nipissing got the game within three points, trailing just 74-71, but TMU took over from there.
The Bold finished the game on a 7-1 run to hold off the Lakers and come away with the victory.
Nicole Budd had a strong game, posting 19 points, Krystal Osburn had 14, Megan McCarter and Sawyer Fischer both added 10 in the contest.
The Lakers wrap up the first half of the season at home, hosting the Laurier Golden Hawks Friday night and the Waterloo Warriors Saturday night next weekend.
Tip-off is set for 6pm both nights at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
