Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team played some extra hockey this weekend on the road in Kingston.
The Lakers split a pair of games against the Queen's Gaels, falling 5-4 in overtime Saturday before upending the Gaels 4-3 in an extra period Sunday.
In the first game of the weekend, the teams combined for nine goals, with the Lakers salvaging a point erasing a three goal deficit.
The Gaels led 1-0 after one before Nipissing tied it early in the second.
Katie Chomiak continued her strong season evening the game, setup by fellow veteran Maggie McKee.
The Gaels exploded for three straight goals within the span of eight minutes, going up 4-1 before the Lakers began their comeback.
Late in the second, with the score 4-1 Gaels, Maddison Stitt got Nipissing back in the game.
Down a pair heading into the third, the Lakers pressed, eventually tying the game.
Lana Duriez kept up her hot streak, scoring early, with Emma Neff grabbing the assist.
And with the goalie pulled an under two minutes to go, McKee tied the game
Kara den Hoed and Madison Laberge had assists on the tying goal.
While they did grab a point, the Gaels earned the win, scoring in overtime to take the decision.
In the second game of the weekend, the Lakers once again erased a deficit late to take the game to overtime.
Nipissing trailed 2-0 and 3-1 before scoring three straight goals, including another late in the third, to send the game to the extra period.
Duriez scored again, with
Maria Dominico tying the game late.
Malory Dominico scored the Lakers second goal as well as the winner in overtime, giving the Lakers the extra point and capping off the weekend.
Emma Thomas, Chomiak, den Hoed, McKee and Laberge all picked up assists in the win.
Chantelle Sandquist was tagged with the loss in the first game, but picked up the win in relief in the second game.
Chloe Marshall got the start, but didn't return after the first period.
The Lakers remain on the road and take Brock and Guelph next weekend.
