Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team wrapped up the first half of the season in style this past weekend on the road.
Nipissing continued their impressive streak, moving to 7-0-1 in their past eight games, thanks to a 3-1 win over the Brock Badgers Friday night and a 2-0 shutout win over the Guelph Gryphons Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, the Lakers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to
Madison Desmarais, who found the back of the net in the first period.
Madison Laberge and
Maria Dominico picked up assists on the game's opening goal.
The teams traded goals in the middle frame, with the Badgers tying things up midway through the period, before the Lakers retook the lead.
With the score 1-1,
Lana Duriez buried the eventual game-winner, with
Maggie McKee and
Malory Dominico drawing assists on the tally.
Assistant captain
Katie Chomiak would seal the victory with the lone goal of the third period, making it 3-1.
McKee and
Emma Thomas grabbed assists on the insurance marker.
Chantelle Sandquist made 19 saves for the win in net for Nipissing.
Saturday, Sanquist stopped all 21 shots fired her way, leading the Lakers to their second win of the weekend.
Maria Dominico and
Tessa Kosec scored in the second period, powering the offence.
Maddison Stitt and Desmarais picked up assists and Sandquist did the rest, giving Nipissing their 11th win of the season.
The Lakers are back in action in January taking on York and Toronto to kick off the second half of the season.
