The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team came up short on the road, Thursday night, dropping a competitive decision to the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Overall, the Lakers had a strong effort, but ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, eventually falling 65-57 to the Vees, who they'll face Saturday in North Bay.
Both teams came out firing, combining for 37 points in both the first and second quarters.
After the opening 10 minutes, the Lakers trailed the Vees 21-16.
The second quarter saw the teams combine for the exact same scoreline, with Laurentian extending their lead to 42-32 at the halftime break.
The Lakers posted a huge third quarter, outscoring Laurentian 21-11 and tying the game, sending the two teams to the final quarter all even at 53.
Unfortunately, Nipissing had nothing left after their big push in the third.
Laurentian outscored the Lakers 12-4 down the stretch to come away with the highly contested matchup.
Angeline Campbell led the way for the Lakers with 20 points and seven rebounds,
Devisha Binns added 14 points and
Megan McCarter chipped in with 10 for Nipissing.
The teams will play the second half of a home-and-home Saturday night at the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre.
Tip-off is set for 5pm.
