Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team wrapped up their home-and-home set with the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday night at the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre.
A slow start wouldn't hurt the Lakers, as they stormed back to grab a 65-52 victory over the Vees, splitting the two game set.
In the opening quarter, Nipissing struggled offensively and Laurentian took advantage of their chances, leading 24-11 after 10 minutes of play.
In a complete 180, the Lakers stormed back to pull within two, posting 15 straight points during a hot stretch.
They turned a 30-13 deficit into a 30-28 disadvantage and trailed by just two at the halftime break.
The Lakers continued to play well early in the third, grabbing the lead, 31-30.
After 30 minutes, it was the Lakers holding on to the lead, 46-41.
From midway through the second quarter to early in the fourth, the Lakers outscored Laurentian 42-14 to take control of the game.
In the fourth, Nipissing managed to keep their lead, answering any Laurentian bucket with one of their own.
Late in the game, with time winding down, the Lakers had a 63-50 lead.
They locked things down in the final few minutes to pull off an unlikely win, turning the game around after a tough opening 10 minutes.
They were able to take control for the final 30 minutes of the game and end the weekend on a high note.
Nick Gehlen led the way with 18 points, while
Danny Lukusa posted 16 in the win for the Lakers.
Nipissing will be back in action next weekend when they host the Queen's Gaels for a pair of games at home.
