Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's basketball was in tough Friday night, facing one of the top defensive teams in the OUA.
The Lakers welcomed the Gaels to town for a matchup at the RJ Surtees Athletic Centre, with the hopes of snapping their mini two-game losing streak.
Unfortunately, it was the Gaels who came away with the victory, topping the Lakers by a final of 83-58
In the opening quarter, the Gaels came out strong, scoring in their first shot and controlling the play early on.
After 10 minutes, the Lakers trailed the Gaels 26-11.
Nipissing slowed down the Queen's attack in the second quarter, but were unable to close the gap.
Queen's extended their lead to 22 points thanks to posting an 18-11 advantage ahead of the half and took a 44-22 score into the half.
Offensively, the third quarter was the best for the Lakers, as they came out of the break strong and posted 17 points.
The Gaels matched Nipissing's output, however, even adding to their lead with an additional 19 points, which built up a 63-39 lead after 30 minutes.
In the fourth, despite another offensive burst by Nipissing, the Gaels closed things out, outscoring the Lakers 20-19 on their way to the win.
Led by four players in double digits, the Gaels took home the win.
Angeline Campbell led the #Lakers offence with 22 points, while
Megan McCarter added 13 in the loss.
The two teams are back at it Saturday evening, with tip-off set for 5pm in North Bay.
