Box Score On a historic night that saw a lot of hard work from NUBASE come to fruition, the Nipissing Lakers men's basketball team hosted the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
In the first ever Shoot For Change Anti-Racism, the Lakers came up with a big win on and off the court.
The Lakers defeated the Ridgebacks 104-88 to give a big boost to their playoff lives and cap off the home portion of the season.
In the opening quarter, the Lakers came out strong, but the Ridgebacks answered, as the teams traded buckets.
After 10 minutes, Nipissing held a 22-19 lead.
A big second quarter gave the Lakers a 10 point lead heading into the halftime break.
They managed to outscore Ontario Tech 23-16 to grab a 45-35 advantage after 20 minutes of play.
A high-scoring third quarter saw the teams combined for 52 points, with Nipissing extending their 10 points lead by edging the Ridgebacks 28-24 in the third.
After 30 minutes and with only on quarter left, the Lakers started to distance themselves from Ontario Tech and led 73-59.
In the fourth, the teams continued to light it up, posting 60 points, as the Lakers eclipsed the 100 point mark and cruised to the win.
A 31-29 advantage in the final quarter gave Nipissing a 16 point win, topping the Ridgebacks to pick up a key win with just one game left on the schedule.
The Lakers had four players hit double digits, with
Muktar Mohamed and
Nick Gehlen each posting 23 points,
Nathan Riley had 22 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double and
D'Andre Johnson added 12.
The teams play the rematch and season-finale Sunday in Oshawa.
Game time is set for 6pm at Ontario Tech.
