Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team is going to the USports National Finals and will be hosting the OUA Championship game Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers advanced to both thanks to a thrilling 3-2 win in Toronto over the country's top team Wednesday night.
This marks the program's first trip to nationals and the second time they will have taken part in an OUA title game – acting as host for the first time.
Four of the five goals came in the first period, with the Lakers opening the scoring.
Madison Desmerais buried the game's opening goal just 1:15 into the game.
Britney Zack picked up the lone assist on the goal.
Toronto would score twice in the next five minutes, taking a 2-1 lead just 5:36 into the first.

Jetta Derenoski tied the game late in the first period, setup by defender
Madison Solie to send the teams to the intermission tied 2-2.
Derenoski would score the game-winner midway through the second period, giving her two on the game.
From there, the Lakers locked things down and goaltender
Chloe Marshall was outstanding down the stretch.
Marshall finished with 16 saves, while the Lakers had 20 shots of their own.
Nipissing will now host the Brock Badgers Saturday in the OUA Finals.
